Recap of the 2010 Battle of the Yacht Clubs Offshore Tournament Presented by Merrill Lynch Wealth Management

Once again, HRYC takes the title and the trophy stays here! The travelling trophy has not travelled in 2 years and can be visited in the Chart Room of the club. With an impressive fleet of 26 boats, our docks and clubhouse were filled with over a hundred anglers to enjoy the 2nd Annual Battle of the Yacht Clubs Offshore Fishing Tournament which included a lot of fishing and even more so, a lot of eating. I must thank our fabulous kitchen staff and chef for the spectacular buffets they orchestrated. Feeding hungry fishermen is no easy task. Special thanks also go out to Brian and Trey, our Dockmasters for orchestrating the “Ballet of Boats” that went on during the Weigh-in. Getting 26 boats to weigh-in and dock safely is not an easy task.

Very special thanks go out to all of our sponsors:

With an eye towards helping the community, $520 was raised in support for the Halifax Sport Fishing Association’s “Mentally and Physically Challenged Day of Fishing”. Also, we have some t-shirts available for purchase. We have both long and short sleeves. Sizes are limited, but I’m sure we have something for you. If you would like to become involved in organizing, planning, or sponsoring next year’s tournament, we would love to have your help. Please contact me if you think you can help. I received some feedback and suggestions regarding the rules of the weigh-in this year and as such, we will be making some changes and closing the loopholes in the rules for next year.

We hope to make this tournament a memorable experience and a signature event for the two yacht clubs in Daytona Beach. It is our goal to provide a great fishing tournament by generating a little ‘friendly rivalry’ between clubs while maintaining old fashioned camaraderie amongst fishermen. It’s all about FUN! I'm so very proud of the HRYC fleet of members who participated this year, they had some tough competition but prevailed over Sunset Harbor in the standings.
